Research Internship
THIS INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO GREEN SKILLS FOR JOBS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PARTICIPANTS
About the Research Internship
We have an opportunity for an intern to join CFPR’s team working on Transformative Technologies led by Dr Tavs Jorgensen. There are a number of projects underway, which include aspects of sustainable design and manufacturing.
We are looking for one Intern, but there is a choice of two projects that could be worked on, depending on their interest
Project 1 - Research into developing building components for net zero construction
This project is looking at the development of new methods of pressing out unfired clay and fibre bricks - a material also known as ‘Cob’. The aim of the project is to contribute to development of building components for net zero construction. The intern would be involved in the development of tools for the manufacturing process through the use of digital design fabrication (such as 3D printing), development of cob mixtures and assistance in the practical research experiments.
Project 2 - Research into developing new ways to use ceramics in water filtration
This project is investigating new ways to use ceramics in water filtration. This project builds on the work by ‘Potters for Peace’ to establish low-cost water cleaning methods for the developing world. The intern would assist in with practical experiments to design and make new generation ceramic water filtration systems to provide clean and safe drinking water as a part of UN sustainability goal number 6: ‘Clean Water and Sanitation’.
