At Alvan Blanch, we have recently upgraded our ERP system to SAP Business One. This system controls all aspects of the business – from accounting to tracking sales and production progress, purchasing and stock controlling. Following a successful implementation, we are now upgrading associated systems to better integrate with SAP, in order to drive efficiency across the business.

 

This internship provides and exciting opportunity to support with this further integration and optimisation of SAP within the business. We are therefore seeking a motivated and digitally capable student to contribute and develop systems to use within and alongside SAP Business One. This internship offers the opportunity to apply academic learning to solve real-world practical solutions, within a manufacturing environment.

The opportunity

Main Responsibilities: 

  • The role will encompass a variety of potential improvements to the SAP system, such as:

  • Assist in development and testing of a digital Show Enquiry form with direct upload into the SAP Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.

  • Development of a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) presentation screen – presenting live data from SAP in a visual summary for ease of tracking production activities.

  • Improvement of existing Shop Floor Data Capture System to ensure increased costing accuracy.

  • Other small upgrades and improvements as the need may arise, or as may be proposed by the intern. These tasks may be tailored to the intern’s strengths and the business needs.

Essential Skills:

We are seeking a student who is interested in manufacturing but also passionate about digital innovation and keen to apply their learning to in a real-world environment.

 

This internship should be particularly well suited to students studying degrees such as;

  • Computer Science

  • Software Engineering

  • Data Science

​Desirable Skills:

Knowledge of the following:

  • Relational databases and some understanding of TSQL.

  • Rust programming language

  • Vue.js, or another framework like React, Next.js or Svelte.

  • TypeScript.

  • Data consolidation and summarisation

  • Representation of live data in graphs etc. on a display screen.

  • .NET Framework or .NET Core and C# or VB.net.

Anticipated outcomes:

  • Roll-out of a digital Show Enquiry form with direct importing into SAP Business One – Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.

  • Development of a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) presentation screen – presenting live data from SAP in a visual summary for ease of KPI tracking.

  • Improvement of existing Shop Floor Data Capture System to ensure increased costing accuracy.

  • Implementation or identification of further improvements to the SAP system.

 

These deliverables may vary depending on project scope but will be shaped collaboratively between the intern, company mentor, and UWE supervisor to ensure a meaningful and achievable outcome.

During the internship you will benefit from:

  • Experience of a manufacturing environment and the importance of an ERP system, as well as working knowledge of SAP Business One.

  • Hands-on experience applying digital tools and techniques to improve the smooth-running and profitability of the business.

  • Mentoring and supervision from experienced staff with regular check-ins and feedback

  • Networking opportunities with industry professionals and potential references

Who can apply?

Internships are open to second and third year UWE undergraduates, UWE Masters students at any stage of their course, postgraduate UWE students and recent UWE graduates.    

 

Working hours and wages

 

This Internship will run for up to 250 hours (exact number of hours to be determined by the business) across the 2025/26 Academic year.

It is recommended that you work a maximum of 12-15 hours a week term time. It may be possible to work additional hours during the holiday periods. The Internship will need to be completed between October 2025 and 28 February 2026. 

If appointed, you will need to discuss your timetable and other commitments with the supervisor and your employer to create a working agreement between you to outline expectations.

You will be employed by Alvan Blanch and will receive the Real Living Wage of £12.60 per hour, plus holiday entitlement. As an employee you'll be expected to follow the business' employee standards of timekeeping, work ethics and culture.

You are likely to be required to work in person, although some remote or hybrid working may be possible once the project is underway, to be discussed at Interview stage.
