Become a Skills Bootcamp Industry Mentor

Do you work within a digital skills role?
Would you like to share your experience with our skills bootcamp learners?   

UWE Bristol are looking to work with a number of individuals to act as mentors across our skills bootcamps, supporting our learners as they develop their new skills and search for their next career opportunity.  We are especially keen to hear from people working in any of the following areas:  

​

  • Project Management

  • Digital Marketing

  • Data science and AI 

  • UX design 

  • Air quality  

  • Environmental management 

  • Sustainable development 

  • Digital engineering

What is an industry mentor and what time will I be asked to commit? 

Acting as a mentor you will support learners by providing guidance and share your experiences and knowledge from your area of expertise.

You will be asked to arrange 3 virtual sessions (30-60 minutes per session) with your mentee(s) across a 4-to-6-week period. The structure of these sessions will be up to you as the mentor, but you may consider discussion around some of the following areas:  

​

  • Mapping their next steps in their chosen career path  

  • Identifying key skills needed for potential job opportunities   

  • Providing feedback on work they develop as part of their bootcamp portfolio   

  • Providing your perspective on your industry and give exposure to best practice   

  • Introducing them to your role or other suitable roles to understand the industry further    

  • Providing a networking experience to your mentee  

Why become an industry mentor?

While you will be supporting our learners, acting as a mentor, you can also support your own personal development. Mentoring can be rewarding and provide you with insight from those looking to enter your industry and for you to learn from their experiences.
